The Book of Luke – passages specific to God’s Plan for Man’s – Salvation.

Luke 3:

v.4 – As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the desert, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.  v.5 – Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low.  The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.

v.20 – Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

v.21 – Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.  Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

v.22 – Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

v.23 – Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven.  For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.

v.24 – But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.

v.25 – Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry.  Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.

Luke 6:

v.37 – “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive, and you will be forgiven.  v.38 – Give, and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Luke 6:

v.46 -  “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not what I say?  v.47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice.  v.48 – He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.  When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.  v.49 – But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation.  The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Luke 7:

v.44 – Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house.  You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.  v.45 – You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.  v.46 – You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.  v.47 – Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – for she loved much.  But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”

v.48 – Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

v.49 – The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”

v.50 – Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Luke 9:

v.23 – Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.  v.24 – For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.  v.25 – What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?  v.26 – If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory of the Father and of the holy angels.  v.27 – I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

Luke 10:

v.13 – “Woe to you, Korazin!  Woe to you, Bethsaida!  For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.  v.14 – But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement than for you.  v.15 – And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies?  No, you will go down to the depths.

Luke 12:

v.8 – “I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God.  v.9 – But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God.  v.10 – And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

Luke 12:

v.32 – “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.  v.33 – Sell your possessions and give to the poor.  Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no theif comes near and no moth destroys.  v.34 – For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Luke 13:

v.1 – Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with sacrifices.  v.2 – Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?  v.3 – I tell you, no!  But unless you repent, you too will all perish.  v.4 – Or those eighteen who died when the tower of Siloam fell on them – do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?  v.5 – I tell you, no!  But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Luke 13:

v.22 – Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.  v.23 – Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”

He said to them, v.24 – “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.  v.25 – Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.”

“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’  v.26 – “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’

v.27 – “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.  Away from me, all you evildoers!’

v.28 – “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.  v.29 – People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.  v.30 – Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”

Luke 14:

v.12 – Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.  v.13 – But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, v.14 – and you will be blessed.  Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Luke 14:

v.33 – In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.

Luke 15:

v.7 – I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine – righteous persons who do not need to repent.

Luke 15:

v.10 – In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Luke 18:

v.18 – A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

v.19 – “Why do you call me good?”  Jesus answered.  “No one is good – except God alone.  v.20 – You know the commandments: “Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.”

v.22 – When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing.  Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.  Then come, follow me.”

v.23 – When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth.  v.24 – Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! v.25 – Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

v.26 – Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”

v.27 – Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

v.28 – Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”

v.29 – “I tell you the truth,”  Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God v.30 – will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life.”

Luke 23:

v.40 – But the other criminal rebuked him.  “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? v.41 – We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve.  But this man has done nothing wrong.”

v.42 – Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

v.43 – Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

In His Image – Genesis 1:27

“So God created man in His own image, in the Image of God – He created him; male and female He created them.”  NIV

The creation of man doesn’t seem to have been - an afterthought in the mind of God.  Rather, from the very beginning, the plan and design of all creation seems – not only to have included human-kind – but to have actually purposed human-kind – as the crowning achievement of His world.  God – with purpose – created us – to inhabit His universe, which is the house where God Himself lives.  We are the highest of all God’s creation.  – Shhh….don’t tell my two golden retrievers that.  :) -  In fact, we have within us – the presence of a Living Spirit – which sets us apart from all other creation.  James 2:26

I ponder over God - being Spirit, and not a material being.  I know that I may not look like God – physically – but I do bear the IMAGE of the Creator – in an invisible – spiritual LIKENESS.  We are surely – very much like God – in the attributes of personality - mind - creativity – the capacity to love and express emotion - the existence of will - conscience - imagination - memory and moral responsibility – and,…..the capacity for worship.

Consider these definitions:

Humankind means – humanity, mankind (men, women, and children with mental capacity), homo sapiens as a species – distinct from species of the animal kind.

Image – (the word image is used in the Bible – “literally” – to describe a physical or material representation of human or animal – kind.)  It also describes a relationship between man and his Creator – God.

Image of God – is a phrase that expresses the purpose of God’s creation of humankind.  Mankind was created for a special relationship with God and with the potential of manifesting the character and nature of God.

Likeness means – similarity; resemblance; representation.

I don’t spend much time in front of the mirror – for obvious reasons. :)   But when I look into the mirror of God’s Word – it shows me -my soul – and……I ask myself – quite often – Whose IMAGE do I see reflected there?

Father, thank You for creating mankind in Your Awesome Image!  Help me, Father, to recognize the unique Spirit, of Your creation – within me!  Help me to nurture the Spirit of life within me – through deeper prayer and more intimate study of Your Word.  Bring to perfection – the image of Yourself – within me, being – my individual unique personality, my mental ability, my creative ability, and my capacity to love and express emotion.  Father, mold the existence of my will into harmony with Your will.  Guide my conscience and inspire my imagination.  Shape my memory and give courage to my sense of moral responsibility. Draw the focus of my thoughts to higher things, so that my divine destiny will be fulfilled – as I become more like Your Son Jesus and more and more in Your Image.  Bring me to my knees in every moment of my life – that I may worship You – in all things.

Through Jesus, Amen
